There have been recent postings on the forum concerning low voltage warnings on the Garmin 5012 which gave the impression that the unit produces a voltage reading somewhere although there is no mention of this in the manual. I can find the low voltage warning setting but no read out for the current voltage in spite of looking in what I thought were the obvious pages in the menus. Can somebody please point me in the right direction or do I have the wrong impression?

I have the 4000 series set up. Every technical issue I have had has been quickly solved by emailing Garmin (or calling them). They normally reply very quickly with very good advice. Just suggesting, in case you haven't already contacted them.

go to
configure/alarms/system/unit voltage on/off.You set the voltage yourself (of the boat voltage) if you so wish.

Many thanks, I know how to set the alarm voltage, but I got the impression from previous posts on this subject that you could get a readout of the voltage that the unit is sensing at any time; maybe I have just got the wrong end of the stick. When sailing on Sunday with the plotter, radio and fridge on low, I got a low voltage alarm when I turned on the radar in its warm up phase with the voltage dropping below 11 volts according to the alarm. This recovered quite quickly once the warm up phase was over and did not sound again even with the radar operating. I have the alarm set at 11.6 volts, the default when I got the unit was 11.8 but I got fairly frequent alarms at this level. I have 2x110 amp domestic batteries of the expensive gell type that are about 5 years old so I hope they are not knackered1
