As has been said, you have the wrong cable. It is also worth mentioning that a number of the “drop” cables used with the 17x are overly long (they should be 6m max) to be N2K compliant as a drop cable, what I usually do in such circumstances is designate the 17x as the end of the backbone and insert an inline terminator between it and the N2K cable, you can do this with any node and it is especially useful on say a rudder position sender or a wind transducer atop a mast where a “drop” cable would be well over length. This though not compliant would not necessarily be an issue with just a few nodes (depending where the power feed is) but on larger installs it can start to cause problems.

Hi, just come off the phone from Garmin, they were helpful in a way but never heard of the cable i have! They say the gps aerial i have that says gps17x on it, is in fact a gps 17n. He told me this from the serial number i gave him. He said there should be no connector on the end, just bare wires to connect to nmea0183. He said i could cut the connector off and join accordingly. He could not undertand why i had the connector i have. He thought someone put it on until i informed him the whole setup is brand new. Anyway, perhaps some progress, will cut it off and join. Seems very unlikely that garmin would give the wrong cable, let alone one they have never heard of!

You must have got an old stock outfit then, I haven't had a 17n in a kit for well over a year.

Gps 17n is an old discontinued product. Who sold you that?

A google search on images shows the cable you have.

I would be asking the retailer for a real N2k one and doing the job properly.

Yes as others say, I bought our 4008/radar 2 years ago and has a 17x GPS, with NMEA 2000, that is what you should have!

Someone with knowledge of items might have swopped it out to upgrade their kit without paying for it....i would be complaining to the company you bought it off, and demand a replacement...with no cost to you
