Garmin 4008 help

Hi,

The following might work.

1) Go into configure menu, and choose North Up.

2) Download the Manual from the Garmin website. Very good manual and with the array of options and stuff you can do on the plotter is a really good reference. I spent time fiddling around with different set ups and options to get it set up as I wanted.

3) Ring Garmin. Very good customer support and help.

Hope this helps

Thank you Tim, I have the manual but can't find anything specific. I've sent an email to Garmin and they offer a reply within 3 days. I'm impatient so I thought I would try here. I will report back when I find the answer. Slight thread drift, I telephoned Raymarine this morning with an Autopilot problem. I had a conversation with an engineer within 5 mins and he emailed very detailed instructions within 30 mins. Great service. Thanks. Alan

Do you have any other GPS signal sources than the 19x on the N2K Bus?

No, just Evolution Autopilot, gps19x and Garmin4008. I previously had a gps17 antenna directly connected to the plotter nmea0183 with no problem but changed to a new nmea2000 antenna that connected to the backbone. It all works fine except for the orientation of the boat symbol? Thanks for your interest. Alan

Thanks everyone. It hadnt occurred to me that the autopilot would influence the plotter display. I have yet to set up the compass etc. Raymarine make big claims that the traditional method of having to swing the compass etc is not necessary with the new ev100, then go on to say if it doesnt do it itself its because of the proximity of pontoons, other boats etc. So no, it wont do it itself and i plan to complete the set up on Saturday. We will see if that changes the orientation of the symbol. Thank you

We have a 5012 and had the same problem occur once. Took ages to find the problem.min the end we found that someone had left a magnetic object near the flux gate compass ( which was in the forecabin ). Removed the source , problem went away.
I know the 5012 well as I've had one for 4 years. I'm not sure there is anything in the plotter that causes the problem. Although I may be wrong.

Thank you. I've come to the conclusion that the new autopilot is at fault. Probably the new flux gate replacement. I will find out for sure this weekend. Thanks. A
