Having recently purchased and installed a new Garmin 3010, the manual states that the date / time is picked up automatically. However, when turning the plotter on, the date keeps coming up as Dec 1990, this is particularly annoying when you want to check the tide tables etc as you have to manually amend the date. (the date will go forward each new day, but still 1990)

Any ideas as to why it is not picking up the correct date / time?

Steve

Sounds like you haven't yet received a fix from the GPS antenna and are still using the time and date from the last "simulator" mode. The 3010 is a fine plotter. When you turn it on in the boat is it showing your current position correctly (ie on the plotter chart and by lat/long)?

Is your GPS 17 antenna below wired up correctly to the 3010?

Everything else on the plotter appears to be working fine, I get a fix without any problems, I can use all the functions, plot course, way points etc etc.... just the date / time won't appear correctly. Could it be a software fault within the 3010?

Steve

Hi, steved, I have the same plotter. I'm not in front of it at the moment nor do I have the instruction book to hand but I think you may find that if you go into Setup (via the menu button) you will be able to scroll to clock settings and can then switch on gps time.

I may be talking bollix of course; it wouldn't be the first time.:)

That's interesting. My 3005 has worked perfectly for 4 years, but last Wednesday, started behaving exactly as you describe.

Could it be that the satellites are sending down the wrong info.?

From Garmin Support Database:-
Question: Why does my marine device show the wrong date?

Answer:
If the date on your GPSMAP 2100, 2200, 3000, 4000, or 5000 series device is displayed as December 31, 1989 or January 1, 1990 the GPS source setting will need to be changed to temporarily correct the problem. We anticipate a software update will be released to permanetly correct this issue. Please revisit this article in the near future as it will be updated once the software update becomes available.

In order to correct the Date issue for the GPSmap 3xxx/22xx/21xx series, the Serial GPS Mode must be changed from Garmin to NMEA:

Power the unit on
Press Enter to advance to the Map screen
Press and hold the ADJ/Menu button for 1 second to go to the Main Menu
Highlight Setup
Highlight the Source option
Press Enter
Highlight NMEA
Press Enter
Highlight Setup
Highlight Info

That's also interesting, we had two warships off Bournemouth over the weekend, for the air show. They arrived last Wednesday, be interesting to see if problem corects itself now they've gone.

Did it work?

Steve

Did you try the Garmin bug fix?

Bugfix worked on our 2106

"In order to correct the Date issue for the GPSmap 3xxx/22xx/21xx series, the Serial GPS Mode must be changed from Garmin to NMEA:"

This fix worked on our 2106, it gives a disconcerting message something like "network not found" on start up but works OK after that.

Back on boat today, disappearance of warships made no difference.

Sitting in Island Harbour at the moment, changed source to NMEA as detailed, and yep, all working again. Thanks for the info. Wonder why it's just decided to malfunction after 3 years.???

That's software for you! Perhaps it's a magical number of days from it's year 2000 or something?

Look's like they are going to fix it anyway.
