Garmin 292 preprogramed card what type is it

David, I have just bought a 292. It has a pre-installed Garmin G2 covering the whole of the UK and North coast of France, see here:

Personally I am very unimpressed with a couple of the main features of the chart. If for example you are sitting in Southampton and want to preview whats going on in, say, the Alderney Race you can drag the cursor to The Race, click on a couple of buttons and get height of tide now or later. HOWEVER, even though the tabs are on the same screen, the current screen i.e. DIRECTION of tide reverts back to Southampton !!! Worse still is that if you DO manage to get the current at the place you want, the screen asks you do you want J, M, X, B, P ... with no explanation where they are. You have to zoom IN (i.e. see LESS to find a symbol marked C !!!!! which when hovered over will tell you that it is possibly J, M, X tidal diamond but THEN you have no idea where the others are! Absolute crepe !

The mapping is excellent and you really can go into harbours with great confidence in poor viz . I did some dummy runs comparing Treguier to Lezardrieux through the Passe de la Gaine. I've done that just using the paper charts, not really diffucult BUT if the viz dropped the chartplotter would be invaluable.

Bit of a mixed message I know, rather have it than not have it BUT that tide screen is very frustrating.

Regards

Steve
