Hello folks,

I am trying to figure out how to electrically connect my Garmin 2010C to my new DSC VHF Radio - which is an Icom IC-M411.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob.

The Garmin outputs NMEA position data - the manual will say which wires this is on. The Icom accepts NMEA position data - again, the manual will say which wires this is on. You connect those 2 pairs of wires together.

You need to make the following connections:

Garmin Blue (TX Data Port 1 Out) OR Gray (TX Data Port 2 Out) to the Inner core of the Icom GPS input cable.
Then connect the outter core of the Icom GPS input cable to the same ground that the GPSMAP 2010C uses.

After that you will need to check that the port setup on the GPS is set correctly to 'NMEA In/NMEA Out' otherwise the connection will not work.

All above information and further information available from the following sources:

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but you will need to go into the set up on the Garmin to set output to NMEA as it otherwise defaults to Garmin's own language.

When my captain set me up with IC-M411 he seemed to have no problem to my Garmin friend GPSMAP 420. He has since forgot how he wired me but I showed my position and Time well for two years. His wife put in the MNSI number as he is dyslexic. But last year when he he tried to connect a AIS to the Garmin. Which he did not finish and so that AIS does not register ship travel passage on the Garmin. He is chicken. When he set off my IC-M411 and pressed Chanel 16 button instead of getting Ch 16 my IC-M411
gives him the following message CH 37 A. When he switches on the Garmin the IC-M411 gives him my position and time.

Can any body help him please as I wish to go sailing shortly and I know he might want to use My Ships Radio. Regards Sam----------
