Any ideas please, our Garmin 188c gpsmap has failed to acquire satellites, it just went blank on all pages bar the depth finder, and simulator, I have heard of this happening with other Garmin units, to be sure the sats are broadcasting our old Lowrance global nav was switched on and it locked on as usual, as does our Raytheon sl1250, but the garmin displays acquiring and the strength bars do not appear, does the garmin antenna have a shelf life? i.e a battery in the mushroom as the raytheon does or do they just give up the ghost and require a new unit. Any guidance appreciated.

No battery but have known them to fail when elderly.

Usual thing, if you can borrow another to try, you can confirm/eliminate. If there's anything seriously wrong with the unit, probably beyond economic repair.

Might be worth opening the case to see if there's anything obvious amiss. There's likely to be retaining nuts on the rear connectors to take off first.

Put my unit to my mates wiring "no good" put my mates unit to my wiring and "bingo" so it appears I have a head problem, just got "Acquiring satellites" no space bars only the horizon circle. Is this now a basket case?
