My NASADepth sounder has given up the ghost, I have a garmin fish finder with a transom mountable transducer, just wondered where best to fit it ? or if poss can I silicone it on the inside of the hull.

Cheers Paul

As long as it is a glassfibre hull, it will work fine. It needs to be as vertical as you can get it. One way to check for a suitable location is to make a small pool in the bilges with plasticine or blue tack, fill it with water, and put the transducer in it to make sure you have a good strong return signal.

No problem in prionciple using transom mount transducer inside the hull, though it's a good idea to check by building a little dam with plasticine in the area you intend to fit it, and filling the dam with water. Then put the transducer into the water, and make sure it works.

But whatever you do don't use silicone! Silicone will absorb the ultrasound pulses from the transducer, instead of transmitting them. Make a plasticine dam as for the water test, and use a runny, slow-curing epoxy.
All the best
Tim
