Garmin 128 gps

hi, apparently there are two NMEA outputs from my garmin 128 gps, one is NMEA out+ and the other is NMEA out-, now I am presuming that the NMEA out+ is the blue wire but which is the other? Help please anyone!!

NMEA out is blue, red is +12V, black is ground (-ve on battery). Unless you need NMEA in (brown), then that's it. Hope this helps. If you don't have the handbook then go to the Garmin website and download it.

Thanks for that but sorry to say not much help.
My vhf installation instructions are asking for NMEA out positive and negative.
I have a manual for the gps and as you correctly say Red is VE+ Black is VE- Blue is NMEA out Yellow is alarm(low Voltage) and it just says brown and white are no connection
So I'm still stuck!!
I have emailed Garmin product support but it's like waiting for the fire to die down

Correct connections...

On your Garmin 128, the blue wire is NMEA Out +ve, and the black wire is NMEA Out -ve. The black wire is also used for the -ve power supply to the GPS.

See reply in your previous thread ... I just checked and your Garmin 128 does use the same connections and colours as my Garmin 120.

The only thing the NMEA-in is used for on the Garmin 128 is to upload waypoints into the Garmin from the laptop. However, not many plotter applications support the Garmin format. My Fugawi3 does and it sure is a nice way to load waypoints as compared to keying them in on the Garmin. The Garmin has to be set to GARMIN/GARMIN mode to upload, but for normal plotter operation it is set to NONE/NMEA.

If you want to connect your garmin 128 to another device that has a two wire input then connect the nmea positive (blue wire from the garmin) to the nmea input positive of the receiving device and connect the nmea negative on the receiving device (sometimes called nmea reference ) to the supply negative.
