Just to update those who contributed to my post, I have now got the yeoman working today, and also managed to feed the St60 multi with NMEA data re Lat and Long, as per my suggested wiring.

However I can't seem to get the yeoman to accept charts at the chart reference stage, using the pre-printed plot points on Admiralty Folio charts which are programmed into the yeoman memory? Using the L16 T GB HO Mode

It will however accept Lat and Lon co-ordinates using the L16T USER Chart Mode? Is there any obvious reason for this? Could it be that because the charts are over three years old they won’t accept the plot points?

I did change the GPS output from NMEA 2.0 to NMEA 1.5 as suggested by the Yeoman hand book, in the hope it may help, but that didn't make any difference?

It also says in the manual (which I managed to download) that when it was supplied from new, that there was a supplement list supplied with the plotter, that had a list of the pre loaded chart numbers to use along with the plotter for easy access purposes for use in the saved chart lists.

I don't suppose anybody has one of these lists I may be able to scrounge a copy of?

Thanks for all the help and hints so far, Philip

You'll need to be sure that the chart you're using matches what the Yeoman thinks you're using. The most obvious possibility is that the chart numbers have changed since your Yeoman was programmed - this has definitely happened with some Imray charts over the years. Another is that you haven't selected the chart you think you have - I don't know how it lists Admiralty charts but if it doesn't use full chart numbers then it seems like it would be possible to mix them up. The list that you're missing may have had something to do with this?

At the end of the day it doesn't matter all that much. You can program all your charts into the User library and write on them next to point number one which user number they're stored as. I had to do that as my Yeoman lost internal battery power in the past and forgot all the in-built charts. Once it's done (an hour or so's work for 3 folios of Imray charts and a few odd ones) it's just as easy as using the in-built data.

EDIT: I was trying to figure out what all this "L16 T" business was. I think you mean "Libr" for "Library", as represented on the Yeoman's old-fashioned 7-segment display.

I have that list on my boat so won't be able to get it for a week. You can download them from here.

Some of the Leisure portfolios were redrawn - I had my software upgraded a couple of years ago when I had a problem with the mat.

I think the Yeoman is excellent. I use Imray charts that don't have the yeoman points printed on them so I have set them up under the User option.

Pete,

Your right , it doesn't really matter, and didn't realise that they updated the chart pre programed info, just wondered if there was an underlying problem seeing as the unit was secondhand, and my paper charts are a little out of date?

Thanks Moody Sabre for the link, Do you think it is worth me sending mine away for a software update, what exactly do they do ?

Is there any way I can check what version of the software I actually have, and what updated version do you have?

Mine only got updated as part of a repair - the mat failed and lost the plot half way across the north sea (£200 :(). It was a bit annoying as it overwrote my User Library and I had to put the co-ordinates in again. Fortunately I'd written them down on the top of chart with the User number.

I have no idea what version I have. As PRV says the important thing is that the Yeoman reference points are where Yeoman thinks they are. In the case of recent portfolio charts that probably won't be the case as they were redrawn. When you reference a chart and get "Ref Point 1" (or whatever it says) then use the up or down arrow and it will tell you what the lat and long is that it is expecting.

Well, that just sounds like they're both old, so they ought to match up :). It's old charts and a brand new Yeoman, or an old Yeoman and new charts, that would be out of step with each other.
