I have a garmin GPS 12 for which i found at long last a cable to use 12v and attach to my laptop

First question: Can i add “way points” directly from the laptop? Can i see my position “on screen”??

Second question:My ibm dosent have a “sierial” port how can i use the “pc cable”???If i take a laptop with a sierial port do i simply “plug in”and start useing the GPS ??

<ul type="square">[*]You can get serial to USB adaptors; I presume your laptop has a serial port. [*]You will need additional software to use your GPS with a lap-top. There are lots of offerings; Garmin's own (which is a free download for Garmin users) is MapSource; others include OZI-Explorer and many others [*]Maps for the software aren't necessarily free; you'll need to investigate that. You need a USB to serial convertor which you plug into the USB port of your laptop. Maplins sell them, £10 on offer or £15 standard price I think.
