Due to some overfancy electronics playing up, among other things I ve lost my depth sounder. Until it (eventually) is all back to normal, I was thinking of fitting the above, as a cheaper solution to losing the bottom of my hull. I guess I can disconnect the present transducer, and fit the new one next to it, as a good location guide for mounting. Some postings say use silicon ? And I assume it does work on a sportboat on the plane ? Any help or input much appreciated

Silicon definitely works, wot I like about it is you can move it in the future should you so wish, bit more difficult with epoxy!

My Garmin 160 FF came with a transom mounted transducer, but apparantly that was only for stern drives, mine had shafts so had to get the through hull type fwd of the props.

we've got the garmin 100 fishfinder, I poxied ours 'bout 2ft forward of the transom or thereabouts and it works fine up on the plane. The trace is as noisy as hell but the depth shown is about right.

The transducer was the standard one that came out the box.
