Has anyone bought and shipped anything from Garhauer Marine in the good old USA?

If my experience of buying kit from small American companies is anything to go by it will be very well made. The only worry is the shipping costs which their web site says will be calculated at time of shipping and that could be a nasty surprise..

I recently contacted them regarding shipping to Spain, and they said that they did. No other details regarding cost. The stuff does look to be very well made.

Don’t know them but there are a couple of us here who might be able to reduce shipping by being a middle man.

Hi Pilotwolf,
I may ask if I could take you up on this kind offer. I'm looking to buy a couple of footblocks, to be shipped to Spain. First need to measure up though, which is impossible at the moment due to our very strict restrictions on movement (Covid)

My suggestion, to get some indication of the cost of shipping would be to select an item of similar size and weight on eBay.com, go to the Postage/Shipping tab and change your location to Spain, then click on "Get Rates".
If you select a item of similar price (and country of manufacture), you will get an indication of estimated Customs charges payable on import to Spain (or whatever country you indicate that you are in).
Alternatively, for English language guidance on estimating import taxes on items imported into the EU from a "third country", you could go to to www.revenue.ie and search "buying goods online for personal use". The information given will be for Ireland, but the rates of Duty and VAT are identical to the ones in Spain.

I bought quite a bit of stuff from them perhaps 10 years ago, the quality of their stuff albeit 10 + years old is exceptional, everything is stainless so unaffected by sun etc. Price was very good l can’t remember about customs but it was shipped surface so shipping was reasonable. I only bought high strain kit from them.

Garhauer blocks are excellent .I’ve been most impressed for construction and longevity.
Other older blocks on board, had a few probs with corrosion but not the Garhauer .
Ive had them sent a few years ago and duty seemed reasonable then .

I have a couple of rope clutches made by them. All stainless construction and beautifully made. The USA chandler kindly labelled them so the import duty was small, I forget exactly how.
