Hi im wondering what are my options on affordable moorings around loch lomond area
looking on google maps there are plenty of yachts in gareloch on moorings
also sandpoint?
does anyone know the crack with these ...cost ....availability etc?
or other areas ?...not a million miles away....long keel folkboat
also loch lomond itself?
cheers

Sandpoint at Dumpbarton was in terminal decline when we were there 4 years ago - wonder what it is like now? Also short of water [even difficult at times] to get in even with a shallow bilge keeler

The big mooring operators I know about on the Gareloch are Helensburgh Sailing Club, Rhu Marina, the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club and Silvers Marine in Rosneath. I don't know who does the moorings at Garelochhead or how far up the left hand side Silvers go - I suspect that it's a different operator after Clynder. It's a nice place to keep a boat, though you do sometime get some congestion at the entrance with Big Black Nuclear Things.

There seems to be a fair amount of information at www.lochlomond.com. Incidentally, you do realise that Loch Lomond is fresh water, don;t you? It used to be possible to take boats up the Leven but I don't think it is any more ...

One of the biggest mooring operators on the Gareloch is DRB Marine opposite Rhu Marina (or should that be Crown Estates Marina?). They are not too expensive and nice people If somewhat quirky at times. Sandpoint, where I have Rhumlady, Is really an winter layup boatyard as it is a fair way up the Clyde and would take several hours to get Greenock. It may look in terminal decline but It is a boatyard as far as I am concerned. Reasonable price, and 10 minutes from home.

was recently in same situation as you.

sandpoint, needs to be fairly near HW to get in and out, then down the river for a fair while to get to the sea.

helensburgh sailing club, probably cheapest option if you lay your own mooring. not so sheltered tho, and at LW you have to drag your dinghy over a lot of mud.

rhu marina or swing moorings, launch service, great if you got the cash

rncyc fairly sheltered swinging moorings just north of spit, with launch service, possibly easiest moderately priced option

donny bruce/drb over at rosneath, seems a nice guy, plenty moorings, reasonably priced. only another 15mins by road, maybe less.

there are a few private moorings in gareloch along each side and a few at the head, don't know who runs these

loch lomond, maybe ok for a season, plenty waterskiers etc, and watch out for the alcoholic litter louts on the banks. scenic fresh water tho
