gap-filling adhesive (wood to wood)

In contradiction to the naysayers I've had great results with Cascamite (aka Polymite, etc. - readily available online). Easy to use (including usable when too cold for epoxy), great at filling small gaps, and it's proved itself to me on a range of fittings/repairs under serious loads.

I was going to use epoxy on a particular couple of jobs, but two friends, both highly accomplished and knowledgeable constructors/repairers of things various (one also a design/technology teacher), independently suggested I use Cascamite in preference.

West system Epoxy and Micro-fibres mixed to a toothpaste thickness, apply fresh resin to both surfaces, add micro-fibe and resin resin mix.

Leave to cure for 24 hours.

As long as the joint has at least 2 to 4 mm of Micro-fibre mix the timber will break before the joint fails. I have carried out this test many times. Also note, I not managed to crack a joint with overtightened bolts through them either.

Good luck and fair winds. :)

I have used Gorilla glue and had mixed results.
I have had joints fail with lack of adhesion to the substrate.(The glue didnt stay stuck to the wood!)
I spent a few hours pursuing threads on all sorts of carpentry and boating forums and believe my experience was not unusual.
I now use only (west though i am not wedded to west-its just convenient)epoxy with microfibres for all wood joints -boat and home.
I buy a litre kit at a time and a big bag of microfibres and mix using digital scales and disposable plastic cups.
Its true i have a bit of wastage of glue, but in dollars and cents its not much.
My epoxy joints all stay stuck and i kind of like that!
Cheers
