Hello,

I'm fixing new grab-rails on the coach roof of my boat. The roof is double skinned grp with an approx 10mm cavity. I was wondering whether there's a strong gap filler I could pump into the cavity where I want to drill and bolt-through the mounting points? Otherwise I'm looking to cut out sections of the inner skin to bond in some ply plates to bolt on to. Happy to do that but just wanted to check out possible options.

cheers.

You need some 'Micro-Fibres'. or even old bits of fibrglass cut into vry small bits will do the job.

Standard resin will do as it's in compression, just mix with resin to a the thickness of toothpaste and work it into the space after taping the underside of course. Let it cure for 24 hours before tightening up fully.

Good luck and fiar winds. :)

If it's just an air gap you could try the gun-tubes of polyester resin: the ones with a two-part nozzle that fit in fatter than standard filler guns. Not yet used on boat, but used in building, and very easy, fast and strong way of fixing into difficult walls. If there's balsa or foam in between one way to erk out some filler without cutting one skin is to put an allen key in a drill, and insert into upper hole - spin and the L-shaped end mashes the soft filler: you suck out the debris with a vacuum hose.
