Tried to get one in Turkey but without success (language difficulties!). Anyone know a good supplier in UK, reasonable price etc. Also.....I've read that the better ones should have two diodes + capacitor....and another 'expert' says no capacitor needed, so which way do I go?

Got a friend coming out in about 4 weeks, could bring it out if I find a source in UK, so not worried about postage or such.

[/ QUOTE ] Not so much that better ones have a capacitor but that it is an addition that may or may not be necessary. You can read about galvanic corrosion, the operation of a GI and about the capacitor on Here on the Yandina website

GIs are readily available from the usual yotty electrical suppliers. Pretty sure Merlin do one and anyone else doing much in the way of shore-power stuff.

Go to de dealer of Raymarine in Marmaris. The are also the dealer of Sterling and the have Galvanic Isolators on stock. There shop is in the near of Netsel Marine. The dolmus coming from Yacht Marine drives by the street of the Raymairine dealer and you can see the name of the company on the building. Buying in England may be cheaper.

that Yandini site has got a pile of info on all sorts of useful wrinkles, including battery compartment ventilation. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sort of fred drift, but thanks for the signpost VicS.

Also on the yandina site, although i dont think you will now find it without knowing the URL are instructions for making a basic galvanic isolator. HERE

Thanks Mycall. The Raymarine dealer in Marmaris does have them in stock. Shop isn't visible from the dolmus route but in a street parallel to it. Found it today and the dealer spoke English and was extremely helpful. I now have an all singing, all dancing galvanic isolator - somewhat more expensive than UK but it's another problem out of the way. Previous attempts to locate one locally met with blank stares, or the triumphant chandler/electrician producing a bog standard circuit breaker.
Cheers!
