Galley Refurb

Looks superb. Do you have a source for the Hanex and an idea on price per sq mt? Did you do the cutouts or were they factory fabricated. Have been trying to decide on Formica etc but looks like I have more decisions to make.....

£400 for one sheet 3680 x 760 x 12mm
Fabricated myself. Easy enough. Special blade reqd for Jigsaw. Tungsten router bits.
Make templates with 18mm MDF.
New taps and sink were a bargain off eBay. (Sealine selling off bits.)
Lighting is Prebit strip lights from Calibra Marine. Cooker most expensive item - OceanChef3 from GN Espace.
Very pleased with end result.
Cost excluding lights and cooker but inc sink and taps inc separate Britta water filter tap is £600.
It's possible to find very cheap solid surface on eBay. Note though not to get solid surface attached to chipboard. You just want the solid, nothing added to thicken it up.

For those who are looking at replacing smaller work tops, a lot of solid surface fabricators have reasonable size off-cuts that would suit most yachts. Also, LG hi-macs & Corian do a range of 6mm sheets at a saving which would suit surface mount sinks or it can be doubled up and glued to give 12mm for under mount sinks.
For a hi gloss finish you would need to use a polyester based material like Avonite and and sand through the grades to polish.
Have a friendly chat with your local solid surface fabricator, most of us will be more than happy to get rid of off cuts or cut & finish a top from a template.

A very nice job indeed. You will soon forget the 'price' of decent materials, the quality will be there every time you ( swimbo:D?) uses the galley.Probably better than original( and the existing galley surround looked very nice indeed to begin with!).

I think there will be a few people wishing you were on the south coast, not Scotland.
I would also add that a fabricator will probably do a better job especially when adding edge mouldings or curved pieces requiring heating to mould.

Also, when choosing a colour, avoid dark colours. They show up the scratches.
Previously I have used solid surface made by Formica. (Made in China.) No real difference though.
