Mine's gone funny. I have not had chance to look at it yet but what happens is that the first press down pumps as normal but the pump then doesn't return back up. Are these things normally sprung or is it returned to the starting position by the water pressure?

Is it a whale type foot pump, if so try checking the inlet for blockage. I think it should push down and spring up i.e. pump on the down stroke only suck up water on the up stroke.

Yeah, I think it is. I hadn't thought of a blockage but that makes perfect sense, although I'm not sure what would have got into the pipe... I'm not sure I want to know!

Is it the lever type or a doughnut? You can get spare parts by mail order from Munster Engineering who make the pumps. You can also pick the pumps up cheap at boat jumbles.

Sounds like a Whale galley gusher.

Service kits are available for Mk1 thru 3.

I've serviced both mine. Split diaphram on both. made wet squeaky noise and leaked a little into the bildges.

Easy to service alothough holding it together while you put the screws back might induce vulgar language for short spells...

I meant they are available fro Mk1,2 &3 Gusher foot pumps.

The Model numebr will be on a sticker on teh unit if its not a Mk1.

Galley pump was on the list of improvements, being very unhappy with the previous owner's faith in the sole (hah!) electric pump. I added a manual Whale at the sink - then decided to leave the old one there - the combination is most useful: footswitch produces a torrent for filling the kettle, manual a controlled supply for water in your scotch (if you must.)
Both pumps are in line and pump through each other, no probs.

If its buggered I am happy to buy the lever from you. Ours got broken by a crew members shoulder on rough night when he fell across the cabin! Just a thought
