Gain Experience

I am very new to this Forum (Hence Name) However leafing thru the posts,It occured to me Could people who "Liveaboard"Take on a Novice for week or two to get a hands on feel for the "Pack up,Sell up,& sail Life" style The experience to be gained from this could be enormous.Earlier in my life I ran a Pub or two.but first was introduced to the lifestyle hands on by living and working in one guided by an experienced couple..Later I trained others myself ..Just a thought. Its a big decision to make when one decides to Liveaboard (abroad) there are books I read a couple,however be nice to spend a bit of time with an experienced "liveaboarder"even to be put wise on just a few points... the list is endless of course,ok ie France(Brittany) to start with,or better in the Med? Have I the right Boat? Is it under equipped,Wood Or GRP?,etc., etc., /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Welcome to the forum.

It's a bit like buying a house... does the location suit you? Does the layout suit you? Are the neighbours members of the boring club? How close is the nearest local / shop .....

And so on.

A lot of liveaboards are very happy to chat and share knowledge experience (a drink'll do it every time) - but reluctant to let people, especially strangers, stay on board. It's a small and specialised space - as you will find when it's your turn.

So it might be a better idea to hang around your local marina and chat to people a bit first - though it won't be the same as living on the hook you'll still find out a lot.

But the general advice that's been said here before still holds - what do you want to do, where do you want to go, how much money do you have, how confident a mariner are you (now and planning to be), how many people on board ...
