Gafering a wayfarer

The rig from a 12sq m Sharpie ( lovely boats, our club used to be one of 2 in the UK to have a fleet ) would probably be very good for the purpose, but they're not exactly lying around all over the place are they ?!

I'd think a useable rig might fetch big money too, but thanks for the reminder of the Sharpies, full of the character the Wayfarer is so conspicuously devoid of !

I'm not surprised the OP is looking to change things around a bit.

I do so love your judgement Wayfarer sales > 11,000 no character according to you

Sharpie sales = ??

Where did the Wayfarer go so wrong??

Have you sailed either ?

Yes and get more pleasure from the dinghy than our 43'. £ per pleasure dinghies beat sailing boats.

You do amaze me in the clarity of your opinions, stated in a way that suggests surprise that they are not the majority when clearly they are your personal opinions and while they suit your values /compromises are not held by many.

Have to add that your ability to get an Anderson 22 into any topic is impressive.

The dinghies I like ARE sailing boats ! - I think you meant sailing cruisers ?

So where did I mention Anderson 22's in this topic ? I'll mention that design where it's relevant.

As for ' character ' of a boat I'd say one definitely has to sail her, to learn her response to the helm and sails, crew shifting etc.

you havn't yet it was meant to be a reminder!

When is the Poole meet? I am hoping to be based in Poole later in the year happy to meet up and buy you a drink. If you are a good boy and my Mk 4 racing wayfarer is still at Parkstone I will let you helm her!! The Mk 4 planes upwind in the right conditions and a broad reach with spinnaker up can result in brown wertsuits for many and a swim for some! no character just a boat that so versatile there is an active racing fleet in addition to the sailing fleet and he cruising fleet and a number of racers used their boat to cross the irish sea for the 2002 racing internationals and later (2008?) crossed the North sea to take part in the internationals in Holland.

Must admit mine went by Ferry but then mine has no character!!

Thankyou for the reminder, which I shall carefully disregard if and when mentioning Anderson 22's is relevant ! If you were a really sad case and cared to look back at past posts, I think you'd find I only mention the boat when there's a relevant reason - I don't make any money out of the things !

I'd actually love a go on your Wayfarer as I haven't tried a Mk IV, though I will always be an Osprey fan when it comes to dinghies, took mine from Chi to Cowes for an overnight stay ( sleeping at a friends' house though I suppose the Osprey could be adapted given advance planning ).

Anyway the Poole trip is on the Easter Weekend, planning to be at the marina opposite the quay ' Port Of Poole ' on Saturday 5th April.

The Sharpie has character, the Wayfarer has practicality. And yes, I have sailed both. If I were going into unprotected waters or wanting to haul out after each sail it would have to be a Wayfarer.
