You beat me to it, Duncan.

Swanage fireworks are truly magical, the echoing around the bay is fantastic. Don't get the same effect watching from shore.

Had a good gathering last year, which was great, apart from a certain person's anchor dragging! Hope the raggie, who was behind the dragging raft of 6 boats, has recovered from his coronary.

Have they lit that damn thing this year as yet, nothing worse than a navigation mark in a main fairway that isn't lit. Becomes more of a hazard.
We might make it this year. Depends on work again. Looking to be down around that way around that time. I've been ordered to have a holiday.

On the Saturday of the start of carnival week, and the end, so that's Sat 31st july and Sat 7th July. Starts at 10:00pm, if I remember right.

Ah, usually Saturday, but the first one was postponed to Sunday last year, due to very bad weather . More research needed!

That could be fun - we're heading out to catch up with Admiral Wignall's cruise that weekend - maybe see you there for the fireworks then :)

Geoff - "the boats are dragging the anchor - about 50 meters"
Col - "dont be silly - fancy another pint ??"

later
Col - "I thought we moored a bit closer in than that"
Baz - "Five boats - one anchor - mmmmm"

Anyone got a spare berth on Saturday night? Want to bring boys but do not fancy idea of all sharing same cuddy on my boat. Kids are well-behaved although parents can get a bit silly after a couple of sherberts.

So, who's going and when.

I expect I'll be in Swanage this coming Saturday (31st) and the following one.

Does anyone know if there's a more or less safe place to tie up a tender at Swanage. It's years since I've been there and never went ashore except at the far end of the beach once.

Best place is by the Stone Quay, that's about half way between the end of the beach (by the Mowlem) and the pier. there's a sort of stone ramp that goes down into the water, and you can use the part that's appropriate to the tide.

Your tender can either be tied to a ring, or, better, lifted out the water and left siting on the hard.
