Future Funding?

Whatever, the general maintenance and quality of service will deteriorate under CART.

Given the general state of the canal system which IMHO is not great as opposed to the good quality of maintenance of the Thames IMHO our quality of maintenence will be diluted.

Well, it had to come. In reality, why should the taxpayer subsidise the extravagent hobbies and passtimes of what is a rather affluent section of our society ie. boatowners?

Got me tin hat on already. :)

Good, you'll need it!

Boaters are generally also taxpayers, who are already subsidising all manner of other things that they have no use for, such as Schools, Scotland, invading every Moslem country one by one are examples of things I wouldn't personally waste money on, you know it's not just the non boating public that suffer.

Is boating any more extravagant than Horse riding or Caravanning? the costs are similar, it's just another hobby, and it wouldn't matter if we all had little £1000 Ebay boats, which are not at all extravagant, or huge Gin palaces which are, the waterway would still need to be maintained.

With reference to the maintenance of the Canal vs the River Thames, you only need to see what money the River attracts in the form of luxury houses, upmarket pubs and restaurants, the like a Canal would struggle to achieve, to see why the Thames is the way it is.
