Anyone know where I can get the fuse holders on a panel? I'm only looking for the red, square, fuse holders marked 'fuse'. Two of mine are broken and won't stay locked in place.

Or is there a way to make them stay in place?

Many thanks

Do it the old way stuff a bit of tinfoil in there:eek:

I guess I could replace the whole switch panel - but it seems a bit overkill for lack of a couple of fuse holders. Or I could buy a new panel of same type - throw it away and just use the fuse holders.....

Tin foil doesn't afford the same degree of protection as a fuse - a possible electrical fire for lack of a fuse holder isn't something I want to risk. (Although I've done it at home a few years ago when we had 'proper' fuses)

Stork III - Sorry, you may be right! I'll have to look at the panel and see if it has those replacement fuse thingys in it. I just brought the fuse holder cover home without thinking about the rest of the fuse.

It may well have these...... I'll have to check next time I'm at the boat

I had the same issue, in the end i replaced the whole panel with new switches and a separate fuse box with better quality fittings.

The do come up on eBay on the odd occasion, new ones too.

Your first pic looks to be a clip-in type with the lugs broken off. The suggested replacements look to be fastened with a nut - if there's room for these, it should solve the problem.

broken fuse holder

Hi

I had a similar all be it reverse problem as it was the black outer rim that cracked and the fuse would not lock in. The solution I chose rather than replace the whole panel was to drill a small pilot hole immediately beside the damaged holder and then screw in a small self tapper using the head of the screw to hold the red section and therefore the fuse in correctly.

You may need to put a washer on it so the it reaches across the housing enough but it works and all you need to do to change the fuse is to remove the screw etc.

I have three of those fuse holders which you, or anyone else, is welcome to. PM your address and I'll post them.

I replaced them with standard finger screw top versions because I could not see a way to change the fuse in 'your' type without using a small screw driver to poke in to the hole in the side. Requiring a small screwdriver to be always available and possibly in the dark seemed like a bad idea...

I just noticed a thread from a couple of days ago asking the same question!

Wish I'd seen it as maplins is only 49p compared to what I paid!

For future searchers, here's a picture of the disassembled fuse holder so you can see what you need......

The thread from before was mine! I trotted off to Maplins, but discovered there's are available from the web only. Also, the writing isn't white on red - but I'll buy 5 so that they all look the same. An issue may be that there are two different versions for different lengths of fuse.
I've PM'd Moxon. When I go to the boat it'll be best to have more than one option - to decrease the chance of it not fitting!
Replacing the whole switchboard will probably be best, in due course.

Douglas

EDIT: Just ordered some Maplin ones:

Ha ha .

But unless I'm missing something I still think a fuse holder which requires a screwdriver is a bad idea. I have the spares because mine were replaced with this type, (random picture from the net but those are the sort):

Yep - I'll probably replace the entire switchboard/fuses in due course with something more user friendly, but currently a short term fix would be preferred.
Having removed the existing panel, without disturbing the multitude of wires too much, to add a "polarity reversal" switch for a new LED tri/combi masthead light downstream of the existing fuse/switch I'm not sure I can face the explosion of spaghetti at the moment!
The light works perfectly (reverse the polarity to select between all round white or tricolour on the same supply cable - pretty clever!) but when I fitted the supplied polarity-reversal switch the fuse blew. The fuse doesn't blow without the supplied switch, so I've returned it to the supplier and my selector is currently a screwdriver to reverse the wires on a connector block!
