I will confess to a liking for Furuno stuff, was seduced by thinking all these commercial users/fishing boats etc can't be wrong. So I have a Fururo wind instrument which has been faultless for over 10years. For some obscure reason when the screen of my log went dead I replaced it with a B&G but really that is a horrid device and wish I hadn't bought it .
When the screen of my GPS burnt out I replaced it with a Furuno plotter. Uses Cmap charts which I like. Yes its interface has some idiosyncrasies but it works and I like it - I would/will buy Furuno gear again.
Unlike Elessar I really dislike Garmin stuff and the way it works.
Thing is I think you really need a hands on test/demo of working equipment to see what suits your preference or style which is hard unless perhaps you go to a boat show.
An old saying from my biker days "different strokes for different folks"
