Anyone know what cable I need to connect a Furuno GPS35 to a Cobra MRF55 vhf for the Dsc?
The vhf has what looks like a headphone jack plug, I dont know what is on the Furuno.
Cheers, C_W

The furuno has a multicore cable which has both rs232 and mnea if I remember correctly. There is a drawing of the cable in the machine on one of the menu pages. Don't know the cobra, but if it's got a jack, you probably only need one wire from the GPS connected to the "tip" of the jack, as the negative battery lead will probably be the other side. remember to configure both machines to the same speed and nmealevel.

I dont know about your model, buy my furuno will tell you the pinouts on the help screen which is very handy! especially as the previous owner didnt leave the instructions.

The manual for the GP35 is available on the Furuno USA website. Look for the interconnection diagram. If its any help, it looks the same as my GP31 - on that the white wire is positive and the blue is negative (ground).

Manual

Further to my last, according to the Cobra manual -

To Install A GPS Device:
1. Install the GPS device in a convenient location
according to its manufacturer’s directions.
2. Bond the NMEA out negative wire ( FURUNO BLUE ) to the black wire of the GPS interface cable.
3. Bond the NMEA out positive wire ( FURUNO WHITE ) to the red wire of the GPS interface cable.
NOTE
When bonding the wires, make sure connections
are secure and properly insulated.
4. Connect the new combination cable to the GPS
device and to the back of the transceiver.

Do you mean, Bond the NMEA out negitive wire (Furuno Blue) to the black wire of the vhf interface,
And the same for your next line, as it sounds as if you are going from a furuno to a gps???????????????
My VHF is Cobra, and GPS is FURUNO! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks, C_W

They are not my lines, they are taken from the Cobra manual which is available on their website.

According to that the NMEA data from the GPS unit is transferred to the radio via the black and red wires of the GPS interface cable, which I would have thought would have been provided with the radio. As you might expect, the black wire is negative and the red is positive.

The NMEA output from the Furuno is via the blue and white wires. The white is shown as positive and must therefore be connected to the red wire going into the radio. The blue wire is negative and should therefore be connected to the black wire going into the radio.

I am no electronics genius but I managed to connect my GP31 to an Icom DSC radio by following the instructions in the manuals.

Only trying to help.
