I have the basic 7" lcd Furuno 1621 and it has worked well but suddenly it is coming up with message somethimg like bp sig missing. I have checked the connections and found no fault. The manual says check SD and DU board. What do I check and where can I get a replacement if they are broken?

download the technical specs from Furuno.com for your radar. You will find the schematics at the end of the pdf file. Locate the boards in question and check all cables and connectors plus check the connectors inside the radar dome. If that does not help, start eating bread and drink water for a couple of weeks, you need a specialist......

"bp sig missing" is probably "bearing pulse missing". This is the pulse that tell the radar which way is front. Normally there is a rotational setup to align the boat with the pulse.

If it does not exist: the likely problem is that the radar is not going around! No power to the motor. In the case of big radar: a halyard around the scanner!

So is it going around? One way to tell is to put your ear to the mast. You can normally hear it when it is rotating. Next you will have to remove the scanner cover and check the belt is still there!

After checking the connections at the mast base and the connector on the back of the LCD plug unit the only other option is to pay someone. The plugs on the back of lcd units can get a hammering due to the way they are mounted. Make sure the cable clamp assembly is stopping the cable breaking the tiny wires inside the plug.

I have not got a manual for the 1621 but on the 1623 it is the yellow wire for the bearing pulse.

if everything fails, read the fine manual (RTFM). I have done it for you. The manuals says, check the cable. And run the in built diagnostic. Additionaly, find out, if the radar is turning by just listening carefully from below. If its not turning, open the dome and check the belt. That may save you some money.

Good luck

Peter
