I have recently purchased a old boat which came with a radome on the radar arch but no front end equipment - radar screen etc. I have had a look inside the radome and the motor, dish and wiring appear to be all in place and free moving. After experiencing cruising through thick fog this last easter I am keen on getting a radar system up and running.

How do I determine what system components are compatible and is there any way of determining the model of the radome (the tag plate is now just a sun bleached sticker) or is it a case of bin it and start over? (The radome's seem to be the most expensive part of the kit.)

Have you got a picture of the Radome?

google images "Furuno radar dome"
then you will find the type of your dome (not that many different models over the years)
when you know the model, you can find the display or plotter model that goes with it, (and check if that has the corresponding connector)
many Furuno plotters and display's are offered on ebay,

only problem, if you have a issue to get it working, you have no help
a "real" Furuno dealer might advice or give help, if you reward him for that

Well I googled images and the dome looks like this:

31dbi3CxVUL.jpg

which is either :
Furuno 4Kw 24 inch Radome 36 Nm Range 3.9 Deg Beam, RSB0071-058
or
Furuno RSB0071-057 4Kw Radome 36Nm Range For 1832 33 34

However, what's inside the radome looks much larger / less compact than any of the pics googled of the radar unit itself. I suspect the unit may well be 15 - 20 years old. Looking at those prices for a replacement radome I'd like to see if I can get this one working.
