Just acquired these and am trying to work out how to connect them to each other. The furuno has a Can Bus port and a NMEA port. Do I use the can bus or the nmea? I'm hoping the first as I have a cable for that!
That should read ST1000+ :)

I dont think so. It's a shielded cable with a red & black wire showing. The other wires within the cable are terminated and isolated. I think the cable has five wires in all - reading the manual. The NMEA port on the Furuno has a 10 pin male connector.

The ST1000+ will take NMEA183 of course, as well as Seatalk 1. My GP32 feeds the Tillerpilot via. a 6(?) pin connector. Trouble is, Furuno cables seem eye-wateringly expensive for what they are and the connectors don't seem to be generic. But they might be cheaper than a converter kit.

The CAN bus on the GP-33 has a standard NMEA2000 5 pin connector. The NMEA 0183 is output the 10 pin connector. As well as 0183, this includes wires for MOB and speed alarm.
I think the shielded cable you describe with the black and red wires is a NMEA2000 cable with 12V input.
If you want to connect using 0183 you will need a Furuno 000-156-145 cable with the 10 pin female connector.
I have a GP-33. In my installation the 0183 output is output to the DSC radio and the NMEA2000 to the plotter, autopilot etc.

Blimey. Has anyone ever tried just connecting the two pins (Nos 1 & 2) to a tiller pilot? Might give it a go. Seems a much more cheaper option than buying new cables. If it doesnt work I think I'll sell the GPS.

Further to my previous reply, to connect GP-33 to ST1000+ you will need either the Furuno 000-156-145 cable or the SeaTalk NG to SeaTalk 1 converter. I'm not sure which would be the cheaper option.

I'm not sure what the 00-156-145 cable is, and the number isn't recognised by Google. Do you perhaps mean the 000-156-405 cable, which is the power/NMEA cable for the GP33, and which is readily available at around £65.

Yes I did mean 000-156-405. Sorry about that. It was incorrectly labeled on my boat wiring diagram.
When connected to the GP-33, this cable does not supply power for the display. Power still needs to come from the red and black cores of the CAN bus cable. See pages 9-5 and S1 of the GP-33 manual.
