My Furuno GPS is over 3 yrs old and the manual suggests the memory battery will give up soon. I contacted Furuno sales and they recommend sending the unit back to their service department. As the battery has a small plug it should be easy to fit a replacement. The part number is 000-139-951 I have e-mailed the service department to try to get hold of the battery as I am loath to part with the GPS, "I would be lost without it".
Has anybody managed to get hold of this battery from them ? interestingly it is available from Furuno.com (America) but having to order this small battery from America would be the last resort.
Any thoughts advice.

I'd have thought that any Furuno dealer in UK would be able to provide you with the battery. But, if you have problems with this, why not order it from the US? You'll probably be surprised by the speed and quality of service.

The good news is Furuno(UK)Ltd can supply the battery. The service department came back promptly with a reply that they can help me with the battery.
Just for the record as no doubt others will eventually want this battery.
The contact at Furuno is:

Michael Davies - Logistics Manager
Furuno(UK)Ltd.
187 Albert Quay,
Aberdeen,
AB11 5QA
The current price is £10.00 + VAT = £11.75 send a cheque and they will supply.

Many thanks to the service dept, shame about sales!
PS I don't expect Furuno (America) will be to upset about not getting my order.

If possible try and keep your mains power on whilst changing the memory battery as you may suffer total amnesia otherwise!

Alex,
Thanks will do, after just having to put all the data back in after I was forced to disconnect the memory battery.
I errased a waypoint that was part of a route this caused all hell to break loose the screen flashed, the unit gave a continuous audible alarm and the buttons locked up, even the off button gave no response. I turned it off at the switch panel, then turned it back on again only to get more of the same. Temporary removal of the memory battery appeared to be the only answer. So yes I will be leaving the power/unit on when replacing the battery.

Thanks for pointing this out though.

I have also got a GP30, whose battery has never being changed,
did not realise they had to be changed! always thought they were self charging off the 12 volt
system.
Just goes to show what I know !...

So what do you do ? undo the four screws on the back and split the unit or is the battery under
the I.D sticker on the back ?
cheers mike
