My GP-32 has on two occasions lost data, e.g. waypoints, routes. I've checked the backup battery and its showing well over 3v. Has anyone else experienced the same, please? And, if so, what was the cause and solution?

The internal battery may be showing 3v but that could be just after or during charging. It may be that it is not holding the charge. Did it lose data after being switched off for a while?

Yes had a similiar problem on my GP32 4 or more years ago, turned out they had been sold by someone who should not have been marketing them or some thing like that.... However the technical guy for Furuno , I seem to recall who was in Scotland, was very helpful and sent me the firm ware up grade which was quite simple to do just had to make up a serial connector to connect GPS to PC then followed the instructions. PM and I will have a look on my old computer to see if I still have the firm ware and can email it to you. If you can wait until after the weekend I will try and see what version it is on my GPS and we could compare. Otherwise google furuno technical.

Sorry it is not simpler news but could still be other things I guess.

Thank you, Spyro & stav, for two most useful speedy responses.
After the event, it seems it is always difficult to remember the exact circumstances but I will certainly check the battery it having stayed for a while without being charged, Spyro.
Following stav's response I will certainly contact Furuno direct.
Meanwhile, stav I would very much appreciate your software information.
Not sure what you mean by PM - I've seen it used previously on this forum - the transmission of a confidential email address?
Please advise how it works and it is instigated.

Hi, try this guy, he was very helpful when I had a query about my GP30:

jmstewart@furuno.co.uk

I also had a similar excellent response from:

gmrogers@furuno.co.uk

when I had a problem later with my antenna.

Do you have the manual.....I have a feeling that for long periods of layup there is a process for transferring the data to another flash memory from where it won t be lost. I get round this bother by switching mine on once a month.

Menu
Sys Setup
Exchange Battery

This should be done when laying up the boat for a long time.

Tis seems to suggest that it can be expected for the battery to run down! I saw this at day one hence the reason I power up during layup when on board doing odd jobs.

Many thanks to you all for most useful info.
Stav's software comment caused me to contact Furuno who advised of a software update in 2003 approx. to overcome loss of data.
Go to MENU, enter SYS SETUP, say yes to TEST and at the bottom of the screen showing other information, including battery condition, are details of the generation of software installed.
Latest generation reads 205-1412-003 and 205-1411-001.
My instrument showed 205-1412-001.
Furuno nevertheless recommends backing up the data by going to MENU, SYS SETUP, EXCHANGE BATTERY and entering yes. Then press any key to turn off the unit. At next power up the data is transferred from the flash memory to the RAM.

Hi stav

have the same problem on my GP32 (firmware ...-001). Could you provide me with the newer firmware (Version ...-003 or later)? Furuno in Germany refuses to give it to customers. They want me to bring the unit to their workshop instead. I'd like to avoid this time-consuming and costly procedure.

Thank you

Joop
