I purchased a second hand Furuno Fax 30 and receive navtex perfectly, but no meteofax.

is there any issue for receiving times or similar ? how can I check for a poor antenna signal?

You have to have it switched on at the right times and right frequencies.

The Northwood 4610 is usually the best and 8040 at some times.

I take it you have the manual to set it up.

See the notes regarding taking the time from the PC also the notes about being browser specific for specific
operating systems.

Ok. But shall I use a those frequencies less 1,9 khz as adjustment to USB?

No.....The Fax machine will tune correctly to the true signal frequency unlike Ham ssb which tunes to the centre frequency so do not correct the frequency but put in the one in the table. 4610 kHz and 8040 kHz Here in Scotland 4610 is best most of the day.

Is there not a wee light led or something on the black box or PC display when a signal is received. All you need for an antenna is a long wire.

Have you got a PC and operationg system suitable???

Yes PC is ok. Maybe it is a loose wire connection or antenna near other systems (radar, gps)

If you check out the UK transmission schedule in the Noaa document then you will see that Northwood transmits all day long to a schedule...Well more correctly shall we say it is supposed to. I do not know how automatic the Furuno is as it could be programmed to only take in marine faxes. There are many codes in the preamble and some faxes in the schedule are specific to aviation. As Northwood seems to have problems keeping to the schedule you may have to leave the fax tuned in on manual and not on a timer as your expected marine fax could arrive way off schedule :) There are periods during the day where nothing is sent for over 30 minutes.
