I have a Furuno 1650 plotter and although I can get a SOG readout when the GPS 'option' is selected, I am unable to get a 'speed through water' reading when the 'paddlewheel' option is selected (there is a through hull paddlewheel installed, by the way, and it does rotate freely!).

Have any other users experienced this problem, or have any suggestions that I might try?

Thanks in advance - and what a super weekend we've had - at least 'down south'!

Thanks for your reply, and don't apologise for asking 'the obvious'!

1. I have never been able to get a reading from the paddlewheel.
2. I presume so, as the setup was installed when the boat was purchased (new!).

It is quite possible that there is a faulty connection between the paddlewheel & the plotter, and I am considering contacting the people who sold me the boat.
However, it would be less embarrassing if the solution was a simple setting that I had overlooked!

Out of interest, which make of charts do you use? I use Navionics, but I also understand another make is compatible.

Thanks
David

All sounds very strange to me.

What make is your log?
How is it connected to the plotter?

Charts -> I use C-Map. There are two versions of theis plotter around: one version uses Navionics or Furuno charts, the other C-Map or Furuno charts.
Should you want to sitch your set would require a software upgrade.

I presume it is a Furuno log, compatible with the plotter as it was factory installed, and it is connected by a cable, terminating in a plug in the rear of the plotter. (I presume there is not a joint/connection along its length that may have a fault).

It looks as if I need to refer to the people who sold me the boat for their advice/comments.

Ref. Charts: I presumably have the version that uses Navionics/Furuno charts. The documentation also makes reference to C-Map charts and I wondered if these were compatible as well - but not so! Not a problem as the Navionics chart I have covers both sides of the whole length of the English Channel - more than enough for my cruising intentions!

Thanks for your comments
