I am off down to Torbay to see the Windy 8800 that I posted about a few pages back. I intend to look it over for an hour or two. If its any good I may make an offer subject to satisfactory survey.

OK you experienced elder members of this venerable forum - what do think I should look for? Remember, I know some stuff about boats but I am not a marine surveyor. The motors were new in 1999 (4.3L Volvo Duoprop). The boat is coverted to LPG (same time as motors changed).

Its said that the interior and cockpit may need some attention. Any good negotiating tactics?

I may get a sea trial then and there - any advice on what I am looking for?

Anything else I need to know??

Thanks again in advance.
Dave

I think I saw one in Weymouth at the weekend. It looked kinda yellow. Not sure if that was the designed colour or badly discoloured white grp.

"Kinda yellow" is the actual colour although they call it "cream". I'm OK with that given that I currently live with a faded mustard colour boat (topsides) that goes like mustard!

I've heard that it needs to be kept clean to look good - just another excuse to be on the water or in the yard!!

Did I ever mention that my Dad had a YELLOW cleopatra in the early 80's called Court Jester (have you seen her)

Actually this was BRIGHT YELLOW - could see her coming from miles away - actually really good sence to have the boat hull contrasting with the water - much more visible and hence safe.

Saying that why are caravans painted white - why not green or brown so that they merge in with the countryside - rather than stand out for miles.

mind you I would NEVER buy a green car.

Aha!!

That's the colour my hull goes after its been in the water around Portmadoc for a season. Only Y10 gets the engrained brown-ish estuary water out.
