Rather considerate of you to leave the condiment dispenser for the rat to flavour it's last supper

We got a rat aboard a couple of weeks back. We think we picked it up at Galaxidhi? First sign was that some peaches had been nibbled on the side shelf. To begin with we thought it might have been wasps as there were a number about. When an apple was nibbled in the same spot the next night we were certain. Raided the shops in Messolongion and bought sticky pads (internet says these are not much use?), a normal snap trap and a cage trap with hinging door. After an afternoon at anchor listening to the dam rat gnawing away at something behind the toilet???!! (wires?, pipes? hull?) the rat was caught by the cage trap that night which was set up in the same place the peaches had been nibbled. The bait was peaches and a bit of cheese. Once caught we cleaned the boat thoroughly.
As my wife said - " a Force 6-7 is nothing compared with having a rat onboard" When you think of the damage it could do I think a rat trap should be standard equipment on board every boat.
