hi there artic is selling a colnebrook furler.could the forum advise if this would be too big for my boat,a 23ft magnifik midget (bit like a folk boat) i need a new headsail and just wandering if this would be suitable for my boat or would it be too big .thanks in advance

The colenbrooks a heasail reefing system made by Marine products wareham Dorset i saw a lot of them in the late 80s and early 90s (but that might have been becouse i was looking for a furler in 1989/90!!)It would fit your boat thats why i asked what it cost!!!!!

They look quite nice!(how well it works i cant say) the drum has a short bottle screw with swivel nicely thought out and the drums not to high off the deck its a single line to furl

Im going to buy a plastimo so good luck!
if you buy it id still like to know what the asking price is!When advertisers dont put the price it meens they know their asking to much and hope to convinse you to pay to much when you contact!!!!

Leisure29s &27s were fitted with Colnbrook roller reefing gear in the late 70s / early 80s. I think L23s were also fitted with the gear. To fit a smaller boat you would have to cut the foils to fit. I still have the gear on my L29 after 26 years & it is very simple/ reliable. The halyard goes over a block at the top of the foil then returns back down to the drum. I think this is true of all Colnbrook systems and all are reefers rather than furlers. Halyard wrap is eliminated but on the downside it is not so easy to adjust halyard tension. I have a small 4:1 tackle on mine & that enables me to set the tension ok, but I can only get to it when the sail is fully unrolled. The main problem is that it seems to go on & on for ever so it is difficult to justify an upgrade! Hope this helps.

Dave.
