Have curently a profurl N31 (old type from the 90's) and not really happy and looking for changing to Furlex. Does anybody know if the foil diameter is the same for Profurl and Furlex?

thanks

Okay, I'll ask...

1, as the foil is aerofoil shaped, why are you asking for the diameter ?

2, aren't the dimensions available on the 'net ?

I'm lucky in that I can do without headsail roller reefing, but all the reports I've heard rate the Hood Profurl as top ?

You're probably looking at a Profurl C320, which has a circular luff extrusion with 32mm diameter (a bit bigger than the 31mm diameter of your N31 system). The Furlex 200 has a "foil-shaped" extrusion, 31mm larger dimension, 21mm smaller dimension.

Furlex gear is good, and Selden's aftersales support is, in my experience, excellent.

One suggestion is to consider using Harken's excellent ball-bearing lead blocks to bring the furling line back along the stanchions. The reduction in friction is impressive.

Or why not go the whole hog - Harken furling gear.

I've had 3 different models (two old/ancient and one new) of Selden furling gear - never again.
OTOH, could not be more pleased with the Harken Cruising we fitted last year - changed our sailing.

What the OP may be asking is will the luff bolt rope be the same.
.So do the luff tapes need changing,Some smaller pro furl sections will take an all up tape and cord size of 4mm furlex takes 4.5mm tape and cord.

These Tapes vary by a few .05mm so if you are changing from pro furl to furlex the old pro furl tape will fit but may be a bit loose.

+1 for Harken. Replaced the >20 year old mk 1 with a mk 4 a couple of years ago and very impressed. Only serving required is a rinse with fresh water as torlon bearings need no lubrication.
