I have a Harken Cruising Unit 1 furler. The furling line at present is set to exit the drum through the wrong opening - apparently it should come through one of the closed 'windows'. Does anyone know if I can simply slacken the drum retaining screws and rotate the drum?

Why not just bring it all up to the bow and take the end out the closed window? The difference in line angle to your lead block should be very slight and capable of adjustment using shackles/fittings or a a different toerail mounting point.

Not physically possible. Thanks for the reply, though. I was starting to feel lonely.

Cannot answer your question but the assembly and operation instructions can be found here http://www.harken.com/pdf/FurlingManuals.php

Hopefully of some help

Is the cross pin fitted correctly ?? Has an additional toggle been fitted?

Maybe you can rotate the guard assembly but there is no mention in the instructions of assembling the drum assembly... presumably supplied as a complete unit

Id have thought the guard might have been free to rotate anyway so that it took up the correct position when the furling line was fed through the enclosed window.

Sorry guilty again of reading manuals !

Thanks, Vic. Yes, drum is a unit. All fitted corrrectly (apart from minor drum thing). Must stop worrying about stuff.

You have to route the furling line via an enclosed window otherwise as the manuals explain:

WARNING! If line is led through opening
between two enclosed windows it can ride
above lineguard and jam furler. This can
cause an accident, damage to your vessel,
personal injury, or death.

I will look more closely to see how to rotate the part with the windows.
