Guess he did not realise that twin 7.4litres 330HP Merc Petrols are not cheap to run.
[/ QUOTE ] Gulp! I imagine not.
Given that she seems to be registered in Guernsey, presumably the cost of petrol wasn't such an issue for her original owner? "Oh yes, mate, it only costs a couple of hundred quid to fill 'er up....." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Not sure I'd call it a bargain. No mention of age but I'd guess it's getting on for 20 years old.
34ft but sod all accomodation (yet still the big berthing fees).
And the killer, twin petrols, that thing will probably burn a gallon a minute flat out, gallon every 2 mins at fast cruise. Not many people in the market for a big speedboat with only £20K ish to spend will want to take on those fuel costs or the running costs (mooring etc) asscociated with a 34ft boat.
Lot of boat for the money maybe, but heck of a difficult thing to sell. If you can afford to run it you can afford something newer/better, and if you can't afford more than circa £20K then you probably can't afford to run it.
Bit of a catch 22 and therefore you'd have to give it away to shift it and therefore it can only be worth a "give-away" price and therefore the "give-away" price becomes the real value.
There is much truth in what you say Ari.
However !!!!! will the field be a little more level if our beloved leaders make us pay the full £1.00 per litre for diesel, yes it will still cost more to run than diesels but will also cost a lot less to fix, anyone who can look after an old car engine can look after it,it`s cheap simple and if it`s as good as it says on the tin might be worth a look by the right person /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not so sure. Consumption will still be a huge issue. Years ago I used to run a Targa 33 with twin AQAD 41 200hp diesels. At cruise it used about 12 gals/hour. Knew a chap with a similar boat with AQ271 petrols, and he used to struggle to get down to 25 gals/hour.
Assuming £1/litre for both and that's circa £50/hour for diesel, double that for petrol.

- and it looks as though a gas conversion could make it viable. Must be some locker space to cram a few lpg tanks into.
[/ QUOTE ]
LPG is dead in the water. Overcomplicated, unreliable, tanks take too much space, perceived danger issue of so much presurised gas (look at the fuss people make about petrol on here!), conversion costs too much, and most of all, you can 't get the fuel anywhere!

Good in theory, dead duck in practise.

True generally, Ari, but although these points would put you off, they may not put off a starter-boater. Especially if he had a degree of mechanical knowledge and could convert it himself. Still going to be a struggle to find fuel stations, though !
Considering property prices, would make a good cheap batchelor pad liveaboard in the right location , certainly would pull the Ladies. Realistically though, yes it is gonna cost fortunes to run but used wisely with shared ownership maybe could it be viable as a weekend bolt hole.
