My boat was "registered" in 1966 and I have a great big official document in hard blue covers giving hosrepower and size of "engine room" ect (she is only 25 feet!). How do I get the "registration" put into my name rather than the previuous owners? Thanks in anticipation Martin

<font color=blue>You have what is called Part 1 registration and mayhave to prove a chain of sellers reaching you as the final owner. Unfortunately when you do finally get it transferred to your name they will take away that delightful blue book and issue you with a scabby bit of paper. You can however ask for the book to be returned to you, this they will do but mark it cancelled. Even so opened up and framed it still forms a nice bit of maritime memorabilia.
Probably the best way of getting it all done is to enlist the help of a good Broker.

I have a feeling that a boat registered under Part 1 so far back will have lapsed - the registrar has been de-registering 'lost' boats gradually - and that it will need a complete new registration at huge expense. That's what happened to me.

I was fortunate enough to write to them before I was de-registered (4 years ago), telling them of my new address. They sent me a new laminated certificate, without ever asking for the old blue book so it is still intact. As you probably know, this wonderful certificate is only valid for 5 years and costs 46 pounds to renew each time. It also costs 46 pounds for any changes of ownership and I was told (hopefully apocryphally) that you had to register and de-register each owner that has had the boat since the currently registered owner. If that is so it could cost quite a bit more. Don't ask for the "blue book replacement" version, by the way. See a previous thread for someone who did: apparently it is a blue plastic wallet and an unlaminated certificate (cost 25 pounds).
