I´m interested how to treat the engines...What do you think is the best?
Of course we should do a warm up. Warming up the engines might take a few minutes. Throttles in neutral or is it better to give a bit of the throttles, to make a faster oil lubricantion to reduce wear in the engines?
And what about planing speed. Should we avoid a full throttle planing speed or is it better, say perhaps daily or every 2-3 days , to drive with full throttle speed, i.g. for a few seconds or minutes? Is there than a kind of cleaning
in the engines, injectors?
What is best for a long engine life?

For long engine life so they say is to not leave a diesel idling when cold.
For a car, start it then gently drive whilst it warms up.
Avoid wot (wide open throttle)when cold.
A diesel loves being worked at 75% load, much easier to do in a boat.
Using it is better than not. Do diesels really need injector cleaners? Vast majority seem to run for serious miles or hrs without.

I only let the engines idle a few minutes - long enough to see the oil pressure is up , voltage looking good and sort out the ropes . it would idle all day and not get to full operating temperature .

Then run at slow speed until some warmth is in the engines . Going flat out on a cold engine is probably not a good idea.

I have never run my engines at maximum revs . I don't drive the car flat out either .
I use a fuel additive partly for fuel bug protection but it also claims to keep the fuel system clean.

A friend of mine bought a used P57/2006 (I think). He had a much better running of the engines, with less smoke for example after using the additive BMW recommends.
Yes the regularly use the diesel would be best. But who can use his boat daly/weekly. And than there is the period during winter...

My boat was lifted out in October , only travelled 100metres from where it was launched in February to its present location. That cant be good for the engines or any mechanical parts.

It is difficult to measure the benefits of fuel additives . I do think they help with smooth running and reduced smoke.
