In his 18 foot Chris Craft Speedboat moored at Shepperton Marina...

Fortunatley... like most Marinas... they had failed to install his new chartplotter and antifouling. when promised... and was thus foiled!

Could it be that he is a member of these forums?
There were some dubius speedboat/weather related inquires on Friday........

though quite how he thought he was gonna get to Spain from Shepperton Marina in a 18foot ski boat is another question...

according to the BBC reporter, his boat was going to be given some coating that would allow it to be safe for going far offshore. Presumably antifoul.

Don't the BBC check these things out any more?

24 hour news

The BBC have been caught out a few times like this. They are under pressure to get news stories onto the website, and onto their various TV and Radio stations very quickly, while at the same time they're expected to spend as little money as possible. The journalists in question don't have time to consult Google or ask an adult. This leads to embarrassing cock ups such as this little gem . In this case the commercial news networks picked up the story and unfortunately no one thought to find out what the clever man meant by 'statistical significance'.

It is only when the media reports on subjects that I have close knowledge of that I notice just how inaccurate and misleading most news reporting actually is.
