Fuel tank size 30ft

I have a 90l tank, but only use between 20 and 30l a year. This year I've found some gunky jelly in the primary fuel filter - the dreaded diesel bug. Having recently found the PBO Youtube Channel I viewed this with interest! As a result I am rethinking my practice of keeping the tank full. I'm moving to white fuel as getting red is a total faff and being able to empty the tank at the end of the season and being able to use it in the car looks a sensible way forward.
....

Out of interest, was this black gunk or a sort of clear-ish jelly?

Looks like bug to me.
and me.

I've had the boat two years and she was full when I bought her, I've been running the tank down so I can go through the fuel system with a fine tooth comb over the winter. I've dosed with Soltron and am surprised that I have it. She has a habit of cutting out at low revs, just when you need that fine control picking up the mooring or coming along side, but turn the key and off we go again.

My cunning plan, as Baldric would say, is to run with about 40l in the tank (20 hours running time) next summer and see what happens - given the comment in the YouTube clip I posted that the manufactures are now giving a use by date of six months from manufacture. If I plan a longer passage I'll fill up, but make sure I have an empty tank come the winter.
