Yes...it is exactly that..it’s necessary to keep the tubes out of the sun or they will disintegrate...my master plan is to make a custom sunbrella cover...I’m a few years behind with my projects at the mo???

This is what an anchorage looks like this time of year…and it’s early in the morning…so these are just some of the overnighters….wait till the lunch crowd arrives ??

A mathematician might say that the lower part of the tank had at least one topological structure preventing it from being continuously shrunk to a point. The mechanism for the appearance of such structures may currently be unknown.

More seriously:
I vaguely remember Bouba mentioning holes, probably weld related but don't think he gave a reason for their appearance.
Any combination of design, construction, installation and so on.
i.e. Poor welding, flexing due to lack of support, corrosion, pierced by object,

[portofino speculation mode on] my money is on crevice corrosion from the outside in, I reckon that part of the tank ends up sat in whatever moisture finds its way in to that bit of the boat [/speculation mode off]

And with all that small boats overnighting... There will be plenty of something floating around in that bay not only boats..
 
Well if the captains seat is above the diesel tank and we’ll know Bouba has put weight on , there is your answer possibly .
