just above my fuel filler cap on my phantom 38 there is a chrome fitting that I assume is a breather outlet for the tank. When putting in fuel the other day diesel started to dribble out of this breather. When I stopped filling, it stopped dribbling but started again when I resumed refuelling. The tanks are only 1/4 full but I have a problem with water in this port fuel tank, could here be any connection and what is causing the leak from the breather ?

many thanks
Tim

Hi Tim, as you pour fuel in the tank it hasn't go expel the air in th stank to make room for the fuel, diesel starts to foam as it's mixed with air in the filler tube, what going wrong is that the deck fitting isn't expelling enough air quick enough.
It could be a kink in the breather pipe or the deck fitting is partially blocked usually due to salt corrosion, I'd check the pipe if you can find it and poke out the fitting if possible. It could be that the pumps station is a high speed filler in which case try and slow the flow down with the trigger.

cheers Paul will look at that. I managed to get the part numbers I need from Separ but the supplier only had 10 micron filters instead of 30 as Separ recommended ,will it matter do you think ? When changing filter on the Eberspacher ,I also found a void behind the drinks cabinet that gives access directly over port fuel tank which will make things a lot easier if I have to have tanks cleaned.

Let me know the numbers of filter , I'll send you some 30s

I had this problem on a previous small boat (Merry Fisher) petrol would pour out the vent if it was filled too fast. Jeanneau did a recall and they were swapped out for larger vents, no more problems.
If the vent is not obstructed see if it's possible to buy a bigger one.

many thanks
Tim

My post got swallowed
I'll try again. On a previous small boat I had the same problem. Jeanneau did a recall and put in a larger vent and the problem was fixed. If your vent is not obstructed see if you can buy a larger vent.
