I keep experiencing engine cut-out (the last whilst passing the chain-ferry at the entrance to Poole Bay!). I have a little Suzuki DT6 outboard which runs like a dream 99% of the time but and then out of the blue, dies. My first reaction is to check the fuel level by opening the tank. There is a small fffsss but not as big as when I forget to open the air vent.
My question is, can the air vent in the filler cap of the portable (metal) petrol tank sometimes fail, causing starvation of fuel through negative pressure in the tank? Has anyone else experienced this?
I'll buy a new cap and see if it continues but just wanted to know if I'd missed something obvious.
