Good morning all,
During this week of 'fettling', have fixed a few niggling faults on my TAMD41B engines. The stop solenoid is not stopping the engine!.

1). Voltage is reaching the stop solenoid (measured at 12.58v) when key is turned to stop position

2). The solenoid 'clicks' when start switch is turned to the stop position, but the engine continues to run.

In a masterstroke of clarity the workshop manual states check the plunger on the solenoid, I am assuming this would require the solenoid to be removed but the manual does not say this!.

Is it safe to 'unwind' the solenoid valve from the block, clean/replace or would this result in disaster.

Advice much appreciated.

Adrian

If you can, wash the area around the solenoid so that when you unscrew it no debris falls into the hole, place a drip tray under the pump to catch any diesel, when its undone you may find the spring and plunger remain in the pump housing, you will need some small long nosed pliers or wifes tweezers to pull them out, you can then with the help of someone to turn the key to stop, test the sol by leaving the wire on and earthing it to the engine.
