The nylon 'butterfly drain screw' on my one of these is locked solid. I feel sure it'll snap when I try to remove it. Anyone know what thread this MIGHT be, before I try? ;-)

REALLY?! You mean its likely to have a reverse thread???? If I go wrong there and force it, it's definitely going to snap!

well not a reverse thread as such, but you are trying no doubt to undo to drain, and actually on one I had you screwed the bleed screw into the bowl which opened the drain, but I do not know on yours, ... just a suggestion, you would need someone to confirm on a similar unit & leave alone until then!

Right hand thread.

Use a little lateral thinking, CAV style filter head simply undo the bolt in the top of filter head and drop the metal bowl. You could try warming case with hairdryer, either way far easier to deal with on the bench.

Refit with a new fuel filter.

You have me a little concerned. Original picture posted was CAV filter head, photobucket picture is simply the same CAV head with a different agglomerator.

Once you get agglomerator body on the bench and get some grips on the base of the water drain, not the butterfly, it will come out, not quite sure what the song and dance is all about, when actually did you last change the filter?

No "song and dance". Simply not at a stage where I want to REMOVE the unit. I want to loosen the the butterfly to drain any water that MAY be present.

Dougal,

I am really struggling with your response, simply undoing the bolt and dropping the agglomerator housing is just as quick as unscrewing the plug.

And when was the filter last changed??
