We are considering replacing an ancient inboard diesel with a Yamaha high thrust 4-stroke

However, we have been told that Yamaha are reluctant to distribute their 4-strokes in Kenya because of the high sulphur content of the local petrol. We have been advised to go for a 2-stroke. But I really like the low revving high thrust 4-strokes that would work much better on a slow moving yot.

It would obviously be a bad thing to wreck a shiny new engine with rubbish fuel. But there is a lot of unreliable information about, does the high sulphur/poor quality petrol argument make any sense ? Any other comments and suggestions ?

Thanks

That is the place I bought my baby Yamaha 4 stroke from.
It arrived very very quickly. And a keen price too.

They seem to know what they are talking about when I questioned them about different brands of small 4 strokes.

There were and are plenty of 2St's specially produced for sail-boats etc. that were high thrust instead of rev's.

Mercury had 7.5 Sailpower and the 9.9 Sailpower. Yamaha had similar.
I believe near all outboards co's could supply their engines with reduction gearbox + high thrust low rpm props as Mercury etc. as above.

My Snapdragon 23 was well powered by the Mercury 7.5 Sailpower ... heavy but beaut engine. 4st will be heavy - so I know what I would go for !!
