Hi all

I have a 'Vintage' Volvo MD5C

Seem to have air in the fuel system, or a knackered fuel pump. I have removed the water separator and filter and filled them up. When I pump the manual handle on the fuel pump nothing seems to happen. I have tried with the engine/cam in a couple of different positions.

My question is does the manual handle work the same basic mechanism as the engine powered mechanism?

Or is it possible my manual pump is broken, but the main mechanism is OK?

Thanks

Had a very similar problem with my VP2001. I replaced the pump with a 'pattern' part from Keyparts ater much buggering about, and the problem disappeared - so did the poor starting :D

Hi-
The lever pulls the diaphragm downwards and a spring returns it, same as the lever off the engine eccentric. If the lever feels as if its connected to something its probably working as you have tried different positions of the cam shaft. Have you tried opening up the output from the pump to see if it delivers?

However, you'll see on forums regular advice to insert a rubber bulb priming device in the fuel feed, such as from an outboard tank or scrap diesel car- removes all problems for most-
